Dodging

Dodging a print is a process which gained its named from the traditional wet-process of printing. By blocking or hiding an area of the print from the light, the darker areas would receive less exposure and be lighter than had the area been left alone. During initial exposure of a print photographers will block portions of the print that need less exposure. The same process is now replicated in most image editing software like Adobe Photoshop.
