Choosing the right metallic paper

With our introduction of Chrome Metallic Luster inkjet Paper to our Chrome line of metallic inkjet papers, one might ask, “What’s better for my print application? Chrome Luster Metallic or Pearlescent Metallic?” Well it’s really a matter of preference and what type of look you’d like to achieve in your prints.

Our Chrome Pearlescent Metallic offers a smooth pearlescent looks with a metallic sheen on the printed surface. The metallic, smooth gloss look of this paper really makes the metallic base stand show through, creating a vibrant metallic sheen. Pearlescent Metallic Paper also replicates the look of traditional silver halide papers, giving it a “wet” look.

Chrome Luster offers the same metallic finish of Pearlescent, with a Luster-E surface. The Luster-E surface creates a more subtle pebbled metallic look in comparision to Chrome Pearlescent which has a smooth metallic surface. Chrome Luster adds a pop to traditional luster photo prints.

Still don’t know which one is right for you? Try a 10 Sheet sample pack for only $14.99.

After seeing samples of these I couldn’t decide which I preferred and decided to try them both. They’re both stunning and the differences between the two are slight. The descriptions offered here are pretty accurate- the Pearlescent is a bit glossier and offers a slight “wet” look to the finish, making it more reflective. The Luster ‘s slight pebbling produces the same metallic look with less gloss/reflection. Overall, I think I prefer the Luster to the Pearlescent as the colors are a bit more pronounced (I notice this primarily in the blacks). In my opinion, the pebbling of the Luster also provides a texture that gives the image greater dimension.

Again, both are stunning and I think the choice really depends on your image.
