Adventures in Photography: Notre Dame Game Day

Along with many other kids that grew up in the Chicago land area, I was raised a Notre Dame fan. This was due to family tradition and the fact that two of my cousins had the gumption and grit to make it into and graduate from the University. With that being said, last weekend I acquired a ticket for a football game vs. Purdue, a Notre Dame rival. I saw this as a chance to do a shoot of a place that I loved as well as a chance to capture traditions some rarely see.

The photo above was taken before the game as the brass players in the University band marched to the field. This is a game day tradition at Notre Dame where fans follow the band into the stadium. Below are my favorite shots I took outside and in the stadium.

The famous Golden Dome. I tried to line up the tree for some depth perception. The gold turned out really nice here.

Here is a shot of a statue inside the Notre Dame church.  Alas, I did not get his name. The low lighting worked well as it was cast over the sculpture’s face.

The ND Quad

Beginning of the National Anthem. I liked everything about this picture minus the tall gentleman to my right. It is pretty difficult to take successful game play shots in the stadium and my stature doesn’t help my cause.  Still, this last picture turned out to be my favorite of the shoot with the old-fashioned sepia tone:
